How is a service different from a solution?

Services are the eight engineering disciplines we work in: the capability. Solutions are the same work framed by the production problem you're actually facing. If you know which discipline you need, start here; if you know the symptom but not the cause, the Solutions page is usually the faster way in.

Do engagements always cover a single service, or do they combine several?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the system. A narrow build might sit entirely inside one discipline, like Agent Engineering. A production-readiness engagement usually draws from several at once, since reliability, security, and operations tend to surface together once a system is close to shipping.

Question 3

Which service should I start with if I'm not sure?

Accepted Answer

Most engagements start with whichever layer is currently blocking production: AI Systems or Agent Engineering if the system itself isn't built yet, AI Reliability Engineering if it's built but you can't tell whether changes improve it, or AI Platform Engineering if the real problem is that every team is rebuilding the same infrastructure.
